With dozens of iPhones to manage, the industry approach is called Apple cluster control: one computer as the console, tasks sent in bulk, results collected in bulk, and the iPhone needs neither jailbreak nor a plugin.
Pin down what “one set” means first. A threefold quote gap usually sits in these four items
Someone came in with a quote sheet: the same licence covering one thousand devices, doing the same job, one vendor at 2,100 and another at 6,200, a threefold gap. What the cheaper one is missing starts with which items “one set” includes.
The industry charges licences by device. One thousand devices are one thousand licences. On a bulk purchase the vendor gives a packaged price, and “one set” means that packaged range. The iPhone path has two licences, charged separately. The USB device licence covers debugging phones, running scripts, and recording scripts inside cluster control. The USB mirroring licence covers seeing the phone screen inside the cluster-control interface. Both have to be authorised in advance before the matching function can be used. On 2,100 and 6,200, ask first whether they cover the same kind of licence. If the lower one quoted only the device licence and left mirroring out, a separate amount still has to be added later. The gap comes from definitions that were never aligned.
A threefold quote gap usually sits in these four items. Licence coverage: device licence only, or device plus mirroring. This item can nearly double the price, and it is the most common. How device count is calculated: whether one thousand devices is a packaged price, or actual device count times unit price. At only two hundred devices, paying per device may be the better deal. If you really will reach one thousand, the packaged price comes out lower. Fix the device count before you negotiate. Say “a few hundred” first and then get a quote for one thousand, and the extra devices land on you. Service scope: whether it includes setup guidance, how fast someone responds when something breaks, and whether script templates are included. Support that replies the next day, and support with a ticket the same day, differ in response time. Whether that extra thousand-plus yuan is worth it depends on whether you have someone to take those jobs. Whether it is yearly: some quotes are a one-time buyout, and some are an annual fee. Ask “how long this price covers.” After the four items are aligned, 2,100 and 6,200 may become 3,500 and 4,800, and what remains is the real difference between the two vendors.
The easiest trap when comparing prices is identical wording on the quote sheet with different meanings.
| What the quote says | Possible meaning A | Possible meaning B |
|---|---|---|
| Licence 2000 yuan | One thousand devices, device licence only | One thousand devices, device plus mirroring |
| Technical support included | Someone answers in a group chat | A ticket with a response time |
| Free upgrades | Minor version updates only | Later major versions included |
| One set | Packaged for up to one thousand devices | Billed again by actual device count |
| Rebinding allowed within one year | Rebinding charges a handling fee | Completely free |
The same line of text can come back from two vendors with a different range. Have them fill this table item by item, and skip a paragraph of their own wording. Put the filled tables together and the cell where they differ is visible.
Once the definitions are aligned, the money still has to be split into what must be spent and what can be negotiated.
Four items that must be spent: two licences (when you both run scripts and watch the screen), a computer with enough headroom, a USB hub with its own power supply, and certified data cables. Cut the hub and a batch task drops power in an instant. Cut the cables and the connection works and fails by turns, and the time spent diagnosing exceeds the money saved.
Three places can be negotiated. Device tier: second-hand models span a wide range, and enough is enough, so a full set of new phones is unnecessary. Purchase rhythm: get one batch running, then add, which is steadier than buying everything at once. Service scope: if you have someone who can carry operations, this part can be given up in exchange for price.
When you ask for the total, ask these eight questions through: 1. How many devices does this price cover? 2. Does it include the device licence, the mirroring licence, or both? 3. How are later devices priced? 4. Is it one-time or yearly, and how long does it cover? 5. Do rebinding and transfer cost extra? 6. What is the scope and response time of technical support? 7. Is phone hardware included, and which tier? 8. What is excluded, and what do you prepare yourself? Write both vendors’’ answers on the same sheet. Where the expensive one is expensive, and which cell the cheap one is missing, line up. An answer that stays vague and keeps circling back to the total is usually a middleman.
How this cost was pressed down
The earlier part is a general way to judge. Here is our own pricing, which you can set beside it. EasyClick is counted in two blocks. Android is 199 yuan a year, with no limit on device count and no limit on the number of packaged apps, so the fee stays the same from ten devices to one hundred. iOS is charged per phone, split into a USB device licence and a USB mirroring licence, and you buy the one you use. A licence covering one thousand devices sits between 2,000 and 3,000 yuan a month. Note how the two blocks are priced: no repeated add-on by headcount, by session count, or by feature module, so the cost spread per device falls quickly as the scale rises.
The person at the start later asked the eight questions. The cheaper vendor had quoted only the device licence, and the second year required a renewal. The expensive one included both licences, a buyout, and ticket support. He chose the expensive one, dropped the device tier by one step, and the total came down some. After the alignment, he knew what 2,100 and 6,200 each included. If you are still counting the total spend, the full budget list splits hardware, subscriptions, and costs that show up later.
